AROUND TERNI

(OOM-breeah)

At the end of our trip we visited Davide's family, in Terni (also in Umbria), to celebrate his father's 75th birthday.

TERNI

(TEHR-nee)

This important industrial town was heavily bombed by the Allies in WWII, so everything in it is very new and uninteresting. Therefore, we took no pictures of the town itself. Davide's family took us to see sights around the area.

SAN GEMINI

(san-GEH-mee-nee)

This is one more charming hilltop town.

Davide's sister Stefi and their mother Peggy are in last picture.

NARNI

(NAHR-nee)

We loved this old, out-of-the-way, collapsing Roman bridge. Its ruins are majestic, and its setting in the lush vegetation makes it look like a set from a sci-fi movie.

We went to see the castle on top of Narni, but we got there 10 minutes before closing, so we couldn't get in. So we returned the following morning, but the gate was closed. We waited for a while. Then we found-out that a technician had borrowed the key to work on an antenna on the roof, and then left town without returning the key. So the staff couldn't open the gate! That's really too bad, as this would have been the most authentic castle that we could have visited on this trip.

Then we went to visit Narni itself.
